My favorite albums

My last list shattered the record for comments on this blog. Cool. So here it is. Back by popular demand, another list. Drew's top five favorite record albums (Yes, I call them records. I have 10 feet of vinyl in my basement).

1. Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles. The one that changed everything. Nuf said.
2. Changes in Attitudes Changes in latitudes - Jimmy Buffett. The one where he really found his sound.
3. You Were on My Mind - We Five. Lets face it, Bev Bevens' voice can melt butter.
4. American Pie - Don McClean. Sure the title track was a hit, but Starry Night and winterwood are amazing.
5. Hotel California - The Eagles. Joe Walsh joins the band. Again, Awesome title track. New kid in town is simply beautiful and Last Resort will tick you off and make you weep at the same time.

I know I already posted today, but it's my blog and I can do what I want to.

I'm out

Well it finally happened. Manic Mom hit the hammer on the nail and found out that I am in fact a guy. I have been intentionally not mentioning my gender or my wife while I blog. Everything I have written is true and from my heart. I only wanted to find out what people would think if I left some information out.

It has never been my intention to deceive or mislead. If I have hurt anyone's feelings, I am truly sorry.

Here's the straight dope on who I am.

I'm an almost 40 year old male. I have been happily married for 13 years. My wife and I have no kids, but we have a dog (Rosie Cotton) and two cats (Jitterbug and Kalamazoo). I work with the youth group at church and act in community theatre when I can. I have Crohn's disease and spend most of my time writing and resting.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on my blog entries.

The list thing has been well received, so I think I'll do more of that.

Thanks again and I hope to talk to y'all soon :)

Top 5 funny movies

Due to the underwhelming response to my last list, I have decided to do another one. I love lists. They encourage debate (as seen in my last blog) and are just plane fun. Today I was feeling a little funny, so here are my top five funny movies of all time.

1. Airplane
2. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
3. The Three Amigos
4. Happy Gilmore
5. Better off dead
6. The Princess Bride

Please feel free to add your own or comment on mine.

I'm just a little ticked off

I was in the store parking lot and I stepped in some gum that a thoughtful person had thrown on the ground. The world is NOT your trash can!! It really isn't a big deal, but it bugs me. Everyone has things that annoy them. Here is a list of ten of mine. This is not a top ten list, just what came to mind. Please feel free to add your own to the list.

1. Poor customer service.
2. Club cards.
3. Getting the wrong order at the drive-thru. See post from 7/23.
4. Excessive profanity.
5. People ahead of me in line who wait for all of their stuff to be scanned and then realize that they have to pay for it.
6. Making a mistake that hurts my team.
7. The person in the car ahead of me holding their cigarette out the window so the smoke comes into my car.
8. Paper cuts.
9. Pouring a bowl of cereal and finding out that you're out of milk.
10. People who talk on their cell phones while driving.

Thought for the day -

Remember, these things are only annoyances. Don't let any of them ruin your whole day.

Hurts so good

I just got back from playing indoor soccer for the first time in a year and a half. I am sore in places I forgot I had. Even my hair hurts. The weird thing is I'll do it again and again. Soccer is the greatest sport in the world and is one of my most favoritest things to do.

Devil at the drive-thru

I was running late this morning, so I stopped at the drive-thru for a breakfast sandwich. After I had pulled out, I found out that they gave me the wrong order. It was food I can't even eat! I didn't have time to go back, so I was stuck. Arrrrrrrgh!!!!

OK, I feel a little better now.

I went to two movies this weekend just to get out of the heat. Monster House was very good, but a little scary for little kids. It was the feel good movie of the year.
My Super Ex-girlfriend was very funny, although it had a few more naughty bits than I like. It was the feel good movie of the year.

Thought for the day -

Always check your food before you leave the drive-thru window!

Once in a lifetime

I saw 'Once in a lifetime - the story of the New York Cosmos' yesterday, and am now a little melancholy. Having spent my youth at the Kingdome watching the Seattle Sounders, it was sad to relive the demise of the NASL. I guess one of the problems with having a good memory is that the emotions of the past are easily brought to the surface. The good thing is that I also remember how good it was to watch professional soccer. I had the good fortune to watch Pele play on several occasions, and I was in the stands to see his last game (Even though I was cheering against him). I guess I'll toast the NASL and turn a glass over tonight.

Holy smokes!

I can't believe it. There are people who don't share my last name or DNA who actually read my blog. Thank you to everyone who takes a small part of your day to see what I'm thinking. Remember, don't be shy. Leave a comment. I'd love to hear what you think. Please keep it clean, this is a family site.

Thanks a whole heap.

I love 24 hour fitness places. Instead of not working out from 7:00 AM through 11:00 PM, I'm not working out around the clock.

How to be antisocial

I just got my first ipod. I know, I know I can't help the fact that I'm old school. I love it. Eight hours of music in a tiny box. The problem is, I want to use it everywhere I go. Nothing says "Don't talk to me!!" like wearing earphones. With this and text messaging, verbal communication should die out within the next ten years. I hate it when good technology leads to bad things.

I saw "You, me, and Dupree" today, and to my great surprise, I thought it was very good. Owen Wilson played the same part he always plays, Kevin Dillon was the straight man, and Kate Hudson was very cute. What made this movie better than it looked was good writing and directing. It was the feel good movie of the year.

Thought for the day-

No day is all bad when you have your music playing.

What a weekend!

I know it's been a while since my last blog, but I've been busy. I just went to my very first writers conference. It was totally cool. I met a ton of great people and learned bunches of stuff. I got to meet agents, editors, and authors. Two agents even asked for a partial. Yeah, you heard right, two partials. This is way better than getting a rejection letter. I am so jazzed, and want to write 24/7. My head is so full of new information, it's going to take a few weeks to process it. Life can be good sometimes.

Thought for the day-

Why do loosen and unloosen mean the same thing?

Bummer, dude!

I must be a real writer now. I got my first rejection today. They were prompt and polite, but it was still a bummer.
I saw The Pirates II today. It was good, but it leaned on special effects too much. It's a good thing that Mr. Depp is so great. It was the feel good movie of the year.

No way to end it

Penalty kicks are no way to end the world cup! It should be overtime until the last man standing scores.
I saw The Devil Wears Prada yesterday. Anne Hathaway is amazing. She kept switching between looking like Liza and Audrey. It was a triumph of the human spirit.

The waiting game

I sent my query letter to agent #1 on my list today. Now it's time to wait and see. I guess I can work on my back up list. Man I hate killing time.

Almost there

I just finished my query letter and am waiting to get my ms back from copy edit. I am hoping to submit on Monday. I am trying to stay calm, but it is not easy.

Thought for the day-

Chill out. Things turn out the same whether you worry about them or not.

Title names

I have decided to put titles instead of dates for each blog. It will make it easier to look up stuff.
I spent today working on my query letter. It's amazing how much is riding on this one page. I think it's good, but will it get me an agent? Only time will tell.

7/4/06

Happy Independence Day. Nothing much to do while I wait for my MS to get back from copy edit. (Thanks, Doug.)
Just brushed Rosie and I wonder why she isn't bald. I have a trash can full of her fur, and she looks like she hasn't lost any. One of the great mysteries of the universe.
Stay safe today and have a blast.

Thought for the day-

Why do they sing "Take me out to the ball game" when they're already there?

7/1/06

I would rather have my team lose in regulation time than win in the shoot out. It was a lousy way to end a game. See you in four years. Go Three Lions!!
